The
social norms approach has been used effectively in the area of tobacco
reduction, both to promote cessation and to prevent the onset of use.
These interventions have occurred in universities, high schools, and community-statewide
settings.
Among the universities that have used the social norms
approach in this way are:

of Wisconsin at Oshkosh (UW Oshkosh)

include:

& Sycamore
- Evanston
Township
- Naperville
Finally, one groundbreaking project in this area was
an effective 8-month social norms campaign targeting youth initiation
of smoking in seven counties in western Montana:
